Yes!! Men and Women: The 48 Hour Neck Lift Has Arrived
is excited to announce the use of the newly released and improved tissue fibrin glue sealant. In May,1998, BAXTER International Inc. announced that it received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell its new fibrin glue product. This tissue replicates the natural blood clotting process to stop bleeding in surgical procedures within minutes. It furthermore decreases post-operative swelling and black-and-blue appearances of the skin to allow for an
exceptionally rapid recovery process. Dr. Giampapa of Montclair, New Jersey, is one of the few Board Certified Plastic Surgeons in the East Coast area to use TISSELL (tissue glue) for his new revolutionary neck procedure called "Suture Suspension." The combined use of the suture suspension technique with the TISSELL glue allows the patient's to return home from surgery with minimal discomfort and pain, and the following day have no dressings or bandages whatsoever.
How does this new miraculous substance work? Dr. Giampapa explains that when he performs a neck procedure, the skin of the neck is not lifted as in a contemporary face lift. The minimal disruption of the underlying skin to the muscle has allowed patient's to heal from the neck procedure much more rapidly than a standard face lift approach to the neck. With the simultaneous use of TISSELL tissue glue, this healing process has been rapidly accelerated, so that within 24-48 hours, patients are now returning to their social activities with minimal,
if any, black-and-blue and swelling, especially in the case of male patients where their beards cause more bleeding than usual. This does not mean that the patient is healed from the procedure, but it means that what would have normally taken 7-10 days as far as overall appearance from the surgery, can now be accomplished in 48 hours.
With the use of TISSELL tissue glue, Dr. Giampapa sprays a few cc of the solution through the submental "chin" and posterior auricular (or behind the ear) incisions. With gentle pressure on the skin for 3 minutes, the skin adheres to the underlying new shape of the muscle created by the special suspension sutures. The skin is then closed with very fine sutures both behind the ears and below the chin.
What also aids healing is the fact that there is no tension on the edges of the skin behind the ear and under the chin. The potential post-op complications of rippling of the skin or small collections of blood underneath the skin have virtually been eliminated. This is because there is no space for the blood to collect, due to the fact that it has been sealed by the tissue glue.
Dr. Giampapa also reports that the use of the tissue glue in his face lift patients, where more extensive surgery and undermining the skin is performed, has also allowed him to avoid any post operative dressings within 24 hours. The patient's also return to work in approximately a week instead of two weeks.
Dr. Giampapa states that "most patients who are 48 hours post-op appear like patients who in the past have recovered from surgery for two to three weeks.
Dr. Giampapa explains that the TISSELL tissue glue product is a blood product. It is sterilized so that there is no risk of viral transmissions or hepatitis. The FDA was cautious in approving this compound until it was certain that this compound would not transmit any contagious diseases like hepatitis or AIDS. Dr. Giampapa states that this solution has been used in over 6 million patients in Europe without any incidence of complications or infections. Patient's who have potential allergies to cow products, like collagen, should tell their surgeons and exercise caution before using this product.
Dr. Giampapa emphasizes that for those patients who have contemplated a neck restoration or even a full face lift procedure, but have not followed through due to fears of prolonged recovery time, black-and-bluing, and swelling, should re-consider their decision, now that tissue glue is available.
With the addition of tissue glue to Dr. Giampapa's new suspension procedure, a patient can obtain a complete restoration of the neck over a weekend.
